About the Role

Purpose

The Maintenance Planner/Scheduler is responsible for the efficient planning and scheduling of all maintenance activities across two high-demand sites. This role requires a methodical, analytical individual with strong leadership qualities, excellent understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, and a collaborative mindset to ensure that maintenance operations are executed effectively through excellent planning and resource management, safely, and with minimal disruption to site performance.

Key accountabilities
 

Maintenance Planning & Scheduling

  • Develop, coordinate, and optimise preventive and corrective maintenance schedules to maximise asset uptime and reliability.
  • Analyse historical data and asset performance trends to improve maintenance planning and resource allocation.
  • Balance workload across teams and ensure efficient deployment of resources across both sites.

Asset & Work Order Management

  • Develop new systems, Manage and continuously improve the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Ensure all work orders are accurately created, prioritised, and closed out with full documentation accountability.
  • Track and report on maintenance KPIs, including PM backlog, PM compliance, and downtime metrics.

Project Coordination

  • Support the Maintenance Manager in planning and coordinating maintenance-related projects, shutdowns, and overhauls.
  • Liaise with contractors and vendors for project work and ensure that all scheduling aligns with operational needs.
  • Monitor progress of ongoing projects and escalate delays or issues promptly.

Team Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with maintenance supervisors, engineers, and operations teams to gather input, align plans, and ensure shared understanding of priorities.
  • Provide leadership in planning meetings and support continuous improvement efforts across teams.
  • Act as a key point of contact between technical staff, operations, and external partners.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain up-to-date documentation of maintenance procedures, schedules, and asset histories.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with health, safety, and regulatory standards.
  • Assist in audits and ensure readiness of documentation and maintenance records.

Key Skills & Attributes

  • Self-driven and highly motivated.
  • Strong planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing resources and priorities across two busy sites.
  • Analytical thinker with a methodical, detail-oriented approach to work.
  • Solid leadership qualities with the ability to influence and coordinate across teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for clear scheduling, reporting, and collaboration.
  • Advanced understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, with the ability to interpret technical drawings and technical specifications.
  • Proficient in CMMS software and Microsoft Office tools (especially Excel).

Qualifications & Experience

  • Proven experience in a maintenance planning or scheduling role, ideally within a multi-site or high-demand operational environment.
  • Recognised qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (HNC/HND or equivalent).
  • In-depth knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
  • Experience with CMMS systems (e.g., SAP PM, Maximo, Infor, or similar).
  • Strong understanding of maintenance strategies (e.g., predictive, preventive, condition-based).
  • Project management experience or qualification (e.g., APM, PRINCE2) is desirable.
  • Understanding of safety regulations, risk assessment processes, and compliance requirements.
  • Waste industry knowledge would be advantageous but not essential.
